After much deliberation, we have taken the decision that SACLA 2020 is going virtual! The exact format of what virtual means (i.e. real-time remote delivery sometime during the original dates for the conference, or uploads for anytime viewing, or a mixture of both) is still to be decided depending on the many factors involved, most of which are out of our control.
So what does this mean to those of you who have submitted papers and everyone who would still like to "attend" the conference?
- The review process is just about finalised. A big "thank you" goes out to the wonderful group of reviewers who have made this possible. We may overstep the deadline of getting the notifications out on the 20th April by a day or two at most, so please bear with us in this regard.
- Final papers taking into account reviewer comments need to be submitted by the advertised deadline of 4th May 2020.
- By late May or sooner if circumstances dictate, we will announce exactly what the new virtual format of the conference will be.
- Regarding registration, we have closed this portal for the time being, as we are hoping that only a very minimal registration fee will be payable. We need to understand our cancellation liabilities, however, before finalising this and reopening registration for the virtual format.
Although we are all disappointed at losing an opportunity for socialising and networking with colleagues, a positive of the virtual conference is that many more academics will have access to the presentations, which may even encourage attendance at future in-person conferences.
